Garden Update May 16

Image
Here's the update on the garden: We've harvested part of the onion crop. They're drying on the front porch. The zinnias have really taken off. The beans are blooming. The corn is getting taller.  The okra is getting bigger. We're beginning to harvest a few tomatoes.   Although the cabbage loopers did a number on the cabbages, they're heading up well. We harvested one head and ate it last week.  The potatoes are almost ready. We've been harvesting the ones that poke up out of the ground. The squash are beginning to set fruit. But it turns out the gophers like to eat the roots of the squash plants. Mean ol' gophers. And Tilley is our constant companion. Wish she could catch the gophers.

This may be the last batch of Snow Peas and Sugar Snap Peas. It's getting a little hot for them. They were good. We have a few more beets to harvest. These are the first potatoes —blue, red, white, and gold. These just popped up out of the ground. The plants have a week or two more to go before harvest. We've been picking a little handful of tomatoes for a few days. They're tasty.
